"The Jellyfish Hunters and the Newborn Old Men" is a video and sculpture installation that gives shape to a magical reality. The narrative unfolds in a fishing village, where pregnant women develop a voracious appetite for jellyfish. This insatiable desire results in a surreal phenomenon: when they give birth, they do not bring ordinary human babies into the world, but newborn old men, altering the cycle of life and death.
Elisabete Sousa is a multidisciplinary artist whose work navigates between fantasy, science fiction and the construction of speculative realities or parallel universes. She questions the boundaries between the organic and the artificial, the physical and the virtual, the human and the non-human. Her practice is a constant exploration of the other — through simulation, the alien, the cyborg or magic — reflecting a fluid artistic approach, guided by idea and creative anarchy.
