Fotossíntese Urbana — Vamos Respirar Arte!
Vanessa Soreto

“Urban Photosynthesis — Let’s Breathe Art!” is an ecological muralism project that brings together art, science, and sustainability. Developed at the Trafaria Social Center (CST) of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Almada, within the framework of the Periphera Festival, the project aims to transform a wall into a living organism that purifies the air.

The painting, depicting a forest where children climb trees, will be created using photocatalytic paints — a technology based on titanium dioxide, capable of decomposing atmospheric pollutants through sunlight. In this way, the mural functions as a small “urban lung,” reducing harmful gases and promoting air quality.

More than an artistic gesture, this intervention is an ecological and community act that invites us to rethink the city as a living ecosystem — where every wall can breathe, and every brushstroke can create a future.
